Learning To Feed Yourself With God's Word

"Your words were found, and I ate them. And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts."
Jeremiah 15:16 (NKJV)

Going out to a restaurant that has a great chef who can prepare a wonderful meal for everyone to enjoy can be very nice.  There are many kinds of food you can find in restaurants that you can also make at home, even though they may be a little bit different than what they would be like in a restaurant.  God's Word is a lot like this, you can go and hear a pastor or minister who can teach and preach God's Word and it is great, but the really great thing is you can feed yourself with the same truth at home, whenever you want!

We know from the Bible that God has gifted some men and women to teach and preach God's Word, these people are like the chef in a restaurant.  Food is not limited to restaurants because you can also prepare your own food at home.  In the same way, God is not limited to speaking to us and revealing His Word to us only through ministers, we can take God's Word for ourselves and read it and God will talk to us!  Bibles are available in many stores today and you can also find the Bible on the Internet and there are Bible Apps for Smartphones so there is no reason for anyone to not have a Bible to read for themselves.

Many Christians do not know how to feed themselves on God's Word and they spend their life relying on others to read and study for them and to explain the Word of God to them.  This is good to a point, but we have to realize that no person should be our source for truth from God's Word; Jesus said that the Holy Spirit is our teacher and He will lead us into all truth.  So, don't just rely on other people to feed you God's Word all of the time.  Start reading the Bible for yourself and ask God to help you understand what you are reading and how you can apply what you are reading to your own life; learn to feed yourself on the truth of God's Word and let it be the joy and rejoicing of your heart.
