Major Doctrine Or Major Distraction?

"till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,"
Ephesians 4:13, 14 (NKJV)

God wants all of His children to grow up spiritually, Ephesians 4:13 talks about becoming a "perfect" man.  That term can be a little misleading because the word "perfect" here does not mean "flawless" but it actually means "complete".  What this is telling us is that God wants us to grow up and develop spiritually and to be a complete person, ready and equipped to do the will of God.  The problem is that many Christians are not complete and ready to do God's will but they are undeveloped and lacking the things that God wants them to have.  The reason for this is that many Christians do not focus on the major doctrines of the Bible and they end up with major distractions.

The majority of Christians are very sincere people who love God and want to do the right thing; the problem is caused by what they feed on spiritually.  While the Bible does have some major and important doctrines, like salvation, faith, prayer, walking in love and so on, most Christians get focused on doctrines that are not so important and this hinders their spiritual development.  Too many Christians are like what it says in Ephesians 4:14, they are unstable, tossed around, and carried about with every wind of doctrine.  Whatever the most popular doctrine of the moment is they follow it and this causes problems for them.

If Christians do not focus on the major doctrines of the Bible they will end up being distracted by minor issues.  Many times I have had discussions with Christians about different things and I have thought to myself, does this really matter?  How is this topic relevant to a person's daily walk with God?  So often we get sidetracked by something that we find to be interesting but it is not really something that will help to build us up spiritually.  Keep your attention on the Bible doctrines that are really important and you will see continued spiritual growth and development in your life which will help you to fulfill God's plan for your life.
