"Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed."
Mark 1:35 (NKJV)
Having the right priorities is very important, and by having the right priorities we can be sure we get done what we really need to do, while other things that are not so relevant or important are done later. If we did not have any priorities and we just did things based on our own desires, or even based on what seemed to be the most needed thing, we might actually not get to the main things we need to do. By setting the right priorities, we will deal with what is most important first, and then we can properly take care of the other things we need, and want, to do.
Everyone has different priorities in their life based on what they are involved in. We have our families, our job, our friends, our personal interests, and of course our relationship with God. However, if we do not put these things in their proper order and our priorities are incorrect, we will have some problems. For example, if we put our personal interests, such as hobbies, sports, and even proper exercise ahead of our relationship with God, we will certainly have problems. Our first priority should of course be our relationship with God, and then the other things in our life coming into place after that.
When we read God's Word, we can clearly see what is most relevant and important for our life, which helps us set the right priorities. We can see this in the life of Jesus, as we read in Mark 1:35, Jesus rose before it was daylight and He prayed. This shows that prayer, spending time with God, was a priority for Jesus. We can also see from the life and ministry of Jesus that God's Word was a priority for Him, because Jesus knew and often quoted Scriptures. We need to be like Jesus, making our relationship with God our highest priority, and keeping things in our life in their proper order.
